dismiss 开除

An estimated 3 percent of Chinese students studying in the US - or about 8,000 - were dismissed last year, according to a white paper.

根据白皮书指出，约有3%，即8000名，中国留美学生去年被学校开除。

 

被学校开除，我们可以用be dismissed from school表示，dismiss在这里指开除，名词形式为dismissal。Dismiss还有解雇的意思，如：If you are late again, you will be dismissed. （如果你再迟到，你将被解雇。）

 

白皮书指出，被开除的留学生群体具有以下一些共同特点：学术表现差（poor academic performance）或学术不诚实（academic dishonesty）。在美国，学术不诚实是学生受到纪律处分（disciplinary action）的最主要原因。处理方式有警告（admonish）、留校察看（probation）、要求离开校园（withdraw）、开除（dismiss）等。

 

白皮书还指出，学习态度不端正（improper¹ learning attitude），身体和心理的问题（mental problems and physical problems）、不适应学习环境（maladjustment to the learning environment）、学习能力不足（insufficient learning ability ）都是导致平均绩点低（a low grade-point average）、成绩差的因素。
