Just outside of Cardiff, archaeologists have unearthed a cemetery they think is about 1,500 years old.

The graves contain well-preserved skeletons, giving an insight into a medieval community. Worn teeth on some of the bodies, for example, suggest people crafting with leather or textiles, pulling these materials through their front teeth as they worked.

There have also been some unusual discoveries – shards of glass from France, pottery³ from North Africa and tiny pegs, possibly for some sort of gaming board. It suggests people were coming to the cemetery to meet up– eating and drinking amidst the graves.

The team hopes further research and DNA⁴ analysis will reveal more about who these people were.
