Mar1.15 - Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the suspected 9/11 mastermind, has admitted his role in the Sept. 11 terror attacks at a military hearing at the U.S. naval2 base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, CNN was quoted by Xinhua as saying on Wednesday.

 

According to a transcript3 of the closed-door hearing, the former al-Qaida No. 3 operative, said "I was responsible for the 9/11 operation, from A to Z."

 

He also said he was responsible for other terror attacks, including the 1993 attack at the World Trade Center, and the attempt by would-be shoe bomber4 Richard Reid to blow up a trans-Atlantic flight with explosives hidden in his shoes.

 

In all, Khalid claimed responsibilities for planning 29 individual attacks, some of them are never executed, including failed assassination5 attempts of former US presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter, and Pope John Paul II during a trip to the Philippines.

 

On Wednesday, the Pentagon also released transcripts6 of the hearings of Abu Faraj al-Libi and Ramzi Binalshibh, who are also among the 14 "high-value" detainees.

 

It could be weeks before the outcomes of the hearings are known because the findings must be sent to higher authorities for approval.

 

So far, hearings for six of the 14 have already been held.
