China to restrict the usage of cultural relics in film makin

Chinanews, Beijing, March 20 - State Cultural Heritage Administration and State Environmental Protection Administration jointly1 announced recently that they would put restrictions2 on the usage of cultural relics3 in film making.

 

Overseas film makers4 will have to hand in an application to the State Cultural Heritage Administration for permission to use cultural relics in China in their films, but domestic film makers will only have to hand in an application to the cultural heritage administration of the province where the cultural relics are located.

 

"The restrictions will be mainly on the making of feature films, but not documentaries. The film makers in their applications will have to include the content of their films, how long they will stay on the spot, how many people will be involved, what they will use for the scenery and even how many cameras they will use to shoot the films, " said Huang from State Cultural Heritage Administration.

 

"The strong illumination used in shooting films will definitely harm cultural relics, and the activity of the crew members will hurt them, too," said Wang Chuanping, the curator of the Three Gorges5 Museum.
