Chinanews, Shanghai, Sept. 30 – Collecting old toys have become a trendy thing for some people in Shanghai now. Their favorite toys might be blue fairies, transformers2, cartoon books, or sticky3 pictures with film star faces. Most of the people who collect these things were born during the 1970s or 1980s.

 

Upon entering Xiao Lei’s house, one will notice the toy giant panda in her room. It seems that she has kept the toy for many years. The giant panda paws4 are torn and at some places, it has been sewed and mended.

 

“I have moved many times. Every time I moved to a new place, I took it with me. I still remember the sunny noon when I first got it,” said Xiao Lei.

 

In Shanghai, there is a shop on the Duolun Street that sells all kinds of dolls. The shop owner is a middle-aged5 woman. Sometimes she and her husband will spend a lot of money buying the dolls they like. If they happen to meet a customer who knows dolls very well, they are willing6 to sell it to him or her at a very cheap price.

 

“When I studied in primary school, I even skipped breakfasts for half a year, just to save the money to buy a transformer1,” said Li Gang7, who has long since graduated from a college. Last week, he spent nearly 1,000 yuan to buy a transformer from a small shop.

 

A man who sells transformers online told our reporter that some transformers that are no longer produced in the market are sold at the same prices as those in foreign countries. For some, their selling prices can be as high as 10,000 yuan.
