China has 50mln people in new social stratum

Chinanews, Beijing, Apr. 16 – The China United Front Theory Research Association (CUFTRA) recently issued the Blue Paper "Theoretical Studies of China's United Front in the Year of 2006." The paper proposes ways to unite people in the new social stratum1 in China.

 

It is said that China has 50 million people who are classified as of the new social stratum. If all people working in this new stratum are included, then the total number of people in the new social stratum will reach 150 million. Some of these people manage 10 trillion yuan of capital while others utilize2 over half of the technological3 patents in China. The new social stratum contributes to nearly one-third of the taxation4 and creates jobs for half of the new labor5 force emerging in society every year.

 

The new social stratum has eight major features. Many of them were originally workers, farmers, or intellectuals. Intellectuals make up the major part in this group. Most people in this group work in non-public sectors6 and earn high incomes. Sometimes it might be difficult to define the nature of jobs they do or even their own identities. Many of them now want to participate in political affairs and a larger part of these people are not Communist Party members.

 

Chinese government should communicate with people in this new social stratum to establish a closer relation with them. The government should know the changes in this group and establish a proper scheme to let them be heard in society. In addition, the government should protect their legal interests and give them the necessary support for developing their careers. For those role models in the new social group, the government should publicize their good deeds.
