Chinanews, Beijing, May 9 – By the end of 2006, foreign investors1 had bought shares from 15,000 joint2 venture companies in China, accounting3 for 5.6% of the total number of foreign-funded companies in the country. The total registered capital of these shares reached 48.31 billion US dollars, accounting for 5.1% of the total registered foreign capital in China, according to the latest information released by the State Administration of Industry and Commerce.

 

The information shows that most purchasing deals occurred in the secondary industry, since 12,000 joint venture companies, or 74.4% of the total, that were involved in the purchasing deals belonged to this category.

 

Among all types of secondary industrial sectors5, purchasing deals happened most frequently in the manufacturing sector4, with 11,000 companies in the manufacturing industry being involved in purchasing deals, accounting for 72.8% of the total; next was the leasing and business service sector; still next was the real estate sector.

 

Most purchasing deals happened in companies located in the eastern coastal6 areas, where economy is prosperous. Of all the companies that were involved in these deals, 6,924 were based in Guangdong, the most among all. Guangdong is also a province where foreign investors buy most of shares from China’s domestic companies. In Guangdong, about 646 domestic companies were involved in foreign purchase deals.
