They possess great consuming power; however, they think their money should be spent wisely and economically. They say that they will never buy luxuries to show off their fortune, and a frugal1 lifestyle never means a miserable2 life.

 

Mr. Ma, a manager of a joint3 venture in Changchun, earns 100 thousand yuan (US$12.5 thousand) annually4 He drives a small car and is still unmarried. When traveling on trips he always wears a suit of Western-style clothes, making others think he is a rich person. He says he has to dress decently to promote the image of his company. When he returns home, He just lives as a man in the street. When he learns that there are cosmetics5 at the sales in a supermarket, he goes to buy them.

 

Mr. Jiang, CEO of a private enterprise, has fixed6 assets worth millions of yuan. He often goes on foot toand from his company. He bargains with peddlers when buying some vegetables. But he likes to spend thousands of yuan to buy green food. "I prefer to buy those things worth the money, but I refuse to buy any valueless things, no matter how cheap they are," he said. Jiang regards real estates and cars, as well as health, as his important properties. So, he plans to buy a 300-sq-m villa7 in the countryside, and rent a piece of farmland to plant some green vegetables that can be provided for his relatives and friends.

 

Most of these people wish they can spend less money, of the same time enjoying a better and decent life.
