CHONGQING, May 20 -- Five students were drowned in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality on Saturday, confirmed local sources.

 

The tragedy occurred at about 4 p.m. when five girls from the Shibajie Primary School in the Dongshan Village of Baisha Township swam in the nearby Luxi River after class. A girl suffered a cramp1. When three others hurried to help, the four girls were all drowned.

 

The fifth girl managed to climb ashore2 and sought help from Yang Bin3, a boy from the Shankou Middle School who happened to pass by. Unfortunately the warm-hearted Yang got drowned.

 

Local police and officials are making further investigation4 into the case.
