China sets to make a new regional economic development map

Chinanews, Beijing, May 25 - An official from the State Development and Reform Commission disclosed on Wednesday that China had started to make a new map of the economic development in the country.

 

The new map divides China’s land resources into four types: those to be developed with priority; those to be developed as key economic regions; those to be developed with limited exploitation; and those to be prohibited from exploitation.

 

The new categorization is different from that of the past when economic development was largely carried out based on administrative1 divisions. The new map classifies Chinese territories into different groups based on their different environmental resource capacity. The environmental resource capacity in a place serves as an important criterion for China to set plans for its population distribution, its economic geographical2 distribution, its utilization3 of land resources, and its urbanization structure.
