Crude oil pipeline in western China put in trial operation

Chinanews, Beijing, July 4 – According to the China National Petroleum1 Corporation, the West Crude Oil Pipeline2, one of the most important projects in China’s Western Development Program, was put in trial operation recently.

 

It took 15 billion yuan to build the 4,000-km-long pipeline, starting from Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous3 Region, ending at Lanzhou, Gansu Province. It has a designed capacity of transporting 20 million tons of crude oil and 10 million tons of refined oil every year. There are 13 stations along the pipeline.

 

The West Crude Oil Pipeline will play an important role in China’s energy security, for it serves as an irreplaceable supplement to the Sino-Kazakhstan Oil Pipeline, and a key part of the West-to-East Oil Transmission Project by connecting Xinjiang and Gansu with the huge energy network in the east.
