China tracks down smuggling cases valued at 40.32 bln yuan

Chinanews, Beijing, July 27 – From 2003 to 2006, the Chinese Customs Office had tracked down 46,528 smuggling1 cases with a total value of 40.32 billion yuan. The smuggling cases had resulted in 8.29 billion yuan of tax loss. About 11,809 suspects were arrested, according to information released by the Customs Office.

 

Since 2003, the Customs Office has applied2 different strategies in fighting against different kinds of smuggling cases, including commercial deceit smuggling, smuggling through processing trade channel, smuggling of goods with tax being reduced or exempted3, smuggling of goods in small batches4, and the smuggling of sensitive goods such as refined oil, frozen products, cigarettes, and automobiles5. The Customs Office has devoted6 a lot of efforts in fighting against the smuggling of ox skin, frozen goods, fruits, used ships, offset7 printing machines, pavers and cotton.

 

Since 2003, the Customs Office has tracked down 520 smuggling cases with the goods value exceeding 10 million yuan each, and, there were 59 cases whose goods value exceeded 100 million yuan.
