Chinanews, Beijing, July 31 – Parents always expect their children to grow up quickly. However, when a child at the age of 10 looks or behaves like a 15-year-old teenager, it usually indicates something wrong with the child. Recently, information from two major children's hospitals in Beijing shows that during the summer vacation, the number of parents who take their children to hospitals for sexual precocity1 problem increased by 300%-400%, the Beijing Evening News reported.

 

Currently when children are having their summer vacation, the internal secretion2 departments of the two major children's hospitals in Beijing are crowded with parents, who take their children there to seek treatment for children's sexual precocity. The number of children who go to hospital at this time of the year has increased by several times. In the Capital Pediatrics Research Institute, for example, doctors at the internal secretion department usually receive ten cases of such problem every day.

 

The rise of incidence is partly attributed to the fact that parents like to grab the chance of the summer vacation to treat their children's health problems. However, more importantly, such rise is boosted by the growing number of sexual precocity incidence cases that occur in recent years, experts say.

 

Based on information collected from outpatient departments, it can be seen that sexual precocity among children is caused by five major factors which are mostly unrelated with diseases or illness. Firstly, as Chinese people's living standards improve greatly in recent years, many children are raised with good nutrition and therefore they develop more quickly than before. Secondly3, some children, in their daily diet, take in too much food that contains hormone4, such as chickens or turtles. Thirdly, environmental pollution also affects children's physical development process. Such pollution is often caused by detergent5, fertilizer, the effluent and resolvent of plastic goods, which will become pollutants6 if abandoned in nature. Fourthly, genetic7 factor accounts for half of the sexual precocity incidence among children. Fifthly, it comes from media. As children see more adult films or TV series, they will be affected8 by the contents of these films.
