Chinanews, Beijing, August 2 – Nowadays more and more Chinese have become interested in collecting antiques, and some consider it as a good choice of investment. However, statistics show that 90% of antiques in the Chinese market are forgeries1.

 

Currently, there are more than 70 million antique collectors and investors2 in China, nearly 6% of the total population. The total sales value of the antique market is 20 billion yuan every year, and the figure has been increasing by 10%-20% annually3. Antique identification programs on TV have won great popularity all over the country. In a word, antique collecting has become a fad4 in China.

 

However, too many forgeries are harming the credit of the Chinese antique market. Sometimes, forgeries are so delicate that even experts might be deceived, not to mention ordinary collectors. What is worse, some identifiers have taken part in the making of forgeries, and give out false identification testimonials to the collectors.

 

Experts suggest that ordinary collectors must consult trustworthy professionals before buying antiques, and they also call for immediate5 action by the government to maintain the order of the antique market.
