Govt encourages foreign logistic centers in China

Chinanews, Hohhot, Aug 7 – China will continue to implement1 its policy for introducing foreign investment. The trend is irreversible. In future, China will further improve its directory of industries for foreign company investment and encourage more foreign companies to set up regional logistic, financial or operational centers in China. China hopes that foreign companies in China can accept more international service outsourcing contracts, said Jiang Zengwei, Vice2 Minister of Commerce.

 

He made the statement last Friday while attending the China Ethnic3 Commodity Trade Fair held in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia.

 

After entry to WTO, China abided by the commitments it had made by further opening its service industry to the outside world. Of all the 160 industrial sectors5 listed by WTO as open industrial trade sectors, China had opened more than 100 industrial sectors. In 2006, China approved the establishment of 7,129 foreign companies in China in the service sector4. During the same year, China's actual FDI utilization6 reached 14.7 billion US dollars, 25.8% more than the previous year. Since it implemented7 the opening-up policy, China has utilized8 well over 700 billion US dollars in total, Jiang said.

 

Despite this, China's FDI utilization is not much, compared with some developed countries. In 2006, developed countries introduced about 800 billion US dollars, accounting9 for over 65% of the total FDI investment in the world. During this year, China introduced about 69.5 billion US dollars, accounting for only 6% of the total. On average, every Chinese introduced about 53 US dollars of foreign investment, which was less than one-third of the world's per capita level and only one-twelfth of the figure in developed countries. In light of this, China will continue to carry out its opening-up policy, further improve its domestic investment environment, and raise FDI utilization both in scale and level, the Vice Minister noted10.
