Chinanews, Beijing, December 6 – Beijing is planning to recruit1 5,000 anti-drug volunteers before the next Spring Festival (which will fall on February 18, 2007), and another 5,000 before next June 26, the International Day Against Drug Abusing and Trafficking.

 

Beijing Anti-Drug Volunteer Team was founded on December 5, 2006, and the founding ceremony was held in Beijing Youth Palace. It will be the volunteers' responsibility to help drug-addicts and carry out investigation2 on drug-trafficking in certain places like bars.

 

Any law-abiding and capable citizens who have reached the age of 18 can apply for work as anti-drug volunteers. Foreigners in Beijing will also be welcomed. Former drug-addicts can become volunteers if they are totally rehabilitated3. However, drug-smugglers will never be allowed to join the group.
