Chinanews, Beijing, Aug 23 – Many people in Beijing have experienced1 a hot summer this year. In order to avoid the heat, some people stay at home during the day and go out only when the sun sets. Young people attend parties to enjoy the cool in the evening. The parties focus on various themes. There are bikini parties, red parties, parties for people born during the 1970s, and parties held at home.

 

“I attended a very special party days ago. Participants all wore sleeping gowns2 to attend the party. This was the first time for me to attend a party like this and I found it very interesting. If there are more such parties, I might still go to attend them,” said Luo Huiling, a junior student at China Youth University for Political Sciences.

 

Many of these parties are held in bars or night clubs. For most of the time, every party focuses on a special theme. There was a party called "sexy hospital club." Men attending the party wore white shirts and ladies wore white skirts. The bar tenders3 were dressed in doctors' uniforms and all the beverages4 served at the counter were given the name of a certain kind of medicine.

 

There was another party called bikini party. Even before attending the party, one was already attracted by the decoration of the party room as shown on its poster: a super large stage was placed at the center of the room with colorful lights pouring in from the ceilings. The room was decorated as an indoor sea beach: there were yachts5, surfing boards, and sunbath places. The room looked like a perfect Hawaii beach at night.

 

In the red party, people were all dressed in red, of course. Some chose pink color while others were dressed in dark red or orange. In addition to these parties, there were also high-heeled shoes fans parties, and party held at weekends for unmarried people, etc.

 

Why do people attend these parties? A young woman who worked in an office in the China World Trade Center told this reporter that people who attended these parties were either exhilarated or very depressed6.

 

If one doesn't want to go out, then one may attend a home party. It is more casual7 there and the party doesn't cost much.

 

“I enjoy the process of preparing food with my classmates together. It gives me a sense of satisfaction. When we stop to take a break, we play some small games. ‘What's in your mind’ is my favorite program. It gives us a lot of fun and at the same time, we also have a chance to understand each other better,” said Xu Meng, a sophomore8 at a university in Beijing, who was also a regular home-party goer.
