The Tiananmen Square will soon be decorated with 400,000 pot flowers to celebrate the 58th National Day of China, most being flowers specially1 bred2 for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
 
Chinanews, Beijing, September 5- The Tiananmen Square will soon be decorated with 400,000 pot flowers to celebrate the 58th National Day of China, most being flowers specially bred for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. This will also be the first appearance of some imported flowers in front of the general public.

 

With advanced technology, the fluorescence of all the flowers has been adjusted to August. Nearly 50% of the flowers were elected by Beijing citizens. Others were imported from hot and dry areas, as Beijing in summer can be very hot, too, where not many local flowers can be exposed to the heat for long while blooming.

 

National Day celebration at the Tiananmen Square has become tradition for 22 years. According to Beijing Parking and Afforestation Administration3, there will be four sets of flower beds at the square, each with a unique theme.
