Chinanews, Hohhot, September 10 – Qi Zhongyi, a 34th-generation direct-line grandson of the Genghis Khan, and the last Mongolian prince in China, passed away in Hohhot on the evening of September 1, 2007, at the age of 81.

 

Qi inherited the throne of Junwangqi in March,1949. In August of the same year, he initiated1 a public meeting, announcing Junwangqi’s uprising against the Kuomintang government.

 

After the founding of the new China, Qi was elected vice2 chairman of the Erdos City Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, China’s top advisory3 body. In 1988, Qi became the vice chairmen of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous4 Regional Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

 

Qi escorted the coffin5 of Genghis Khan back to Inner Mongolia from Qinghai in 1954. He also helped to collect the relics6 of Genghis Khan from different places of China.
