Chinanews, Beijing, September 12 – Beijing Frontier Check released a report on September 10, saying that the proportion of juvenile1 stowaways2 from China had increased by 30% in the first 8 months of 2007.

 

In last August alone, 17 underage stowaways were caught and sent home by Beijing Frontier Check, the youngest being 14 years old.

 

Meanwhile, the age of Chinese stowaways repatriated3 by other countries has become younger and younger. Many parents in south China would like to send their kids to work abroad, most of them knowing nothing about the importance of labor4 visas.

 

Stowing away has never been an economical way of overseas travel, not to mention that such journeys can usually be very painful due to lack of food, water and medicines.
