Chinanews, Nanjing, December 12 – Since more than 300 people try to take their own lives by jumping off the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge every year, a professional suicide rescue team has been founded by the local police.

 

The responsibility of this team of four is to patrol under the supervision1 of the Bridge Police Station along the 1,800-m main bridge, where most suicides happen, and offer timely help to those who want to throw away their lives.

 

“Now our problem is where we should put those we save. They need guidance, which we will not be able to give. There should be an organization that can save the souls of those who want to commit suicide after we have saved their bodies, ”said Zhou Wei, a police officer from the Bridge Police Station.
