Chinanews, Beijing, September 21 – Though China launched a special campaign against mafias one year ago, the situation today is still very serious, and it won’t witness much improvement in the near future.

 

Particularly in some areas with bad civil security conditions, mafias are still rampant1. Some of them even have connections with local government officials.

 

Since 2006, Chinese police have cracked nearly 500 mafia-related cases, and procuratorates have instituted proceedings2 against 340 mafias, 167 of which were sentenced at the first trial, and another 82 after second trial.
