Beijing to solve the wage-in-arrears problem of migrant work

Chinanews, Beijing, December 14 – Beijing Municipal Administration of Labor1 and Social Security (BMALSS), Beijing Municipal Construction Committee, Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau and Beijing Municipal Federation2 of Trade Unions jointly4 started an inspection5 on December 13 to fight against the wage-in-arrears6 problem of migrant workers.

 

In the last 11 months, BMALSS solved 6,873 wage-in-arrears cases for 55,482 migrant workers, recovering 104.73 million yuan of wages for them. Though only 1,820 cases were related to the building industry, they covered 71% of the victims and 83% of the amount of wages in arrears.

 

The joint3 inspection covers building, food and beverage7, clothing and service industries, particularly the building industry.

 

BMALSS will first serve a warning on the enterprises that do not pay the migrant workers at the correct time, and severe punishment will be meted8 out if the enterprises do not issue the wages in the required period of time, and there will be a bad record incurred9 by these enterprises in the credit database, which is open to the general public.
