Chinanews, Shanghai, September 27 – Shanghai Special Police Department, with 72 armed patrol vehicles and an 883-strong police force, announced that it will start armed patrols covering all the districts and counties under the jurisdiction1 of Shanghai Municipality on October 1, 2007.

 

Shanghai has carried out similar patrols in the 10 central districts since last May 1, and 660 suspects have been arrested on the spot in the patrols.

 

It is estimated that the patrols will greatly enhance Shanghai's public security.
