Chinanews, Beijing, Sept 29 – Every year, when autumn comes, there is a group of people in China who get excited at this time of the year. They may vary in their age or social backgrounds. However, they share a common interest – they love bugs2. They often meet to chat about bugs; they listen to bugs; they enjoy bugs fight. They are bug1 lovers. At present, China has four million bug lovers.

 

When bugs are chirping3 in the grass, we know that the summer is over and autumn has come. At this time, bug lovers begin to busy themselves preparing for the annual bug fair. Last August, hundreds of cricket dealers4 went to Shandong, a province in China well known for its crickets, to purchase crickets. Many streets in Shandong are crowded with cricket dealers from every corner of the country.

 

According to an article in Beijing Science and Technology Daily, in China raising crickets to enjoy cricket fights and listening to cricket chirping has become a very popular activity among the people. According to Zhao Boguang, deputy executive chairman of the Beijing Bugs Association, in Beijing there are tens of thousands cricket fans. In addition, the number of people who raise katydids or bell-ring crickets might be five times the number of people who raise crickets. And this does not include those who don’t raise bugs but often stand by and watch whenever there is a bug activity. According to a rough estimation, in China there might be 4 million bug lovers. In Shandong, the transactions related with cricket sales often reach 300 million yuan. Apart from bug lovers, there are 300 companies across the country whose main business is to make bug pots.
