Chinanews, Beijing, November 7 – As some stadiums and gyms for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games are built in local colleges and universities, and nearly all colleges and universities in the Olympic host cities will be responsible for the training of Olympic volunteers, such colleges plan to adjust their arrangement for summer and winter holidays in 2008, and their students will have the shortest winter holiday and the longest summer holiday.
More than 30% of undergraduate and postgraduate1 students of Peking University have applied2 to be Olympic volunteers, and the university plans to terminate the winter holiday this year on February 17, 10 days earlier than usual, while the summer holiday next year will begin on June 21, when the training of volunteers will be kicked off.
Other colleges and universities have similar plans, but not exactly the same as Peking University, as Beijing Municipal Commission of Education doesn’t have regulations on the holiday arrangement of colleges and universities.
