Chinaenws, Shanghai, November 16 - Shanghai municipal government has issued its regulation on stiking crimes involving new-type drugs.

 

Nowadays, more parts of China and an increasing number of Chinese have fallen victim to drugs due to the global drug rampancy1. Shanghai being an international metropolis2, is also faced with severe drug problems.

 

At present, nearly 70% of drugs confiscated3 in Shanghai are new-type drugs like icedrugs. It is the first time for new-type drugs to overrun traditional ones. The number of drug abusers now has all topped the 1,000-mark in 15 districts and counties in the municipality

 

The abuse of drugs has spread to residential4 communities, hotels and restaurants, with more and more young people having become addicted5 to it, particularly in suburban6 areas. Most of the drug abusers in downtown areas are middle-aged7 persons.

 

In the first 9 months of 2007, 5,800-odd drug abusers and drug traffickers were arrested in Shanghai, with more than 1,700 g of drugs confiscated.
