65% of Shanghai adolescents have no time for physical exercises

Chinanews, Beijing, Nov. 17 - According to People's Daily, a forum1 held in Shanghai revealed that the health of Shanghai teenagers is deteriorating2. Currently 11.5% of Shanghai teenagers suffer from obesity3, and 85.5% of high school third graders have poor eyesight.

 

According to statistics, the obesity rate of youngsters aged4 between 7 and 9 reaches 11.9%, of youngsters aged between 10 and 12, 12%, and of those between 16 and 18, 14.8%. Statistics also demonstrate that 65% of Shanghai teenagers have no time to spare for physical exercises.

 

Shanghai has invested 5 million yuan annually5 from 2006, encouraging more young people to participate in physical exercises. Some 28% of high schools in Shanghai have rearranged courses to guarantee students have more time for sleep.
