Chinanews, Beijing, December 6 – According to Kong Fanshi, the director of Beijing Municipal Cultural Heritage Administration, the Badaling Wildlife Zoo must be moved from its current site, as Badaling with its famed Great Wall carries great meanings as a historical monument

 

Beijing is an ancient city with a history of more than 3,000 years, and it was first made the capital of China more than 800 years ago. It is famous for an abundance of ancient buildings and cultural relics1, rather than modern entertainment. The Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, the Great Wall and its many other imperial gardens and mansions2 are well known both at home and abroad. It is Beijing municipal government’s responsibility to preserve such precious heritages in their original appearance.

 

Though Beijing municipal government has yet to work out and publish detailed3 rules on the preservation4 of historical sites, Kong believes it is improper5 to place a wildlife zoo near the Great Wall.

 

The trial version of the regulation on the planning of Badaling-Ming Tombs Scenic6 Area says that any building or facility that harms the historical appearance and integrity of the historical heritages in this area will be demolished7, including the Bear Land, the Wildlife Zoo, the Jiulong Amusement Park, a golf court and a ski run.
