Chinanews, Beijing, December 12 – According to the “Report on the Development of Modern Chinese Youths”, more and more of them tend to remain single in the future, while the society as a whole is under the heaviest pressure of marital1 problems ever.

 

In 1995, 51.54% of young Chinese adults aged2 under 29 were unmarried, and the proportions increased to 59.17% in 2000 and 65.89% in 2006.

 

As China is witnessing very rapid economic growth nowadays, the life pace in the country has also become very fast, especially in urban areas, thus many young people choose to marry late, when they have developed careers of their own. A large number of young people also choose not to get married as they appreciate personal freedom.

 

Besides, China has an unbalanced gender3 ratio at present. That is to say, many young men will find it hard to have girl friends, letting alone getting married in the foreseeable future.

 

Actually, most young people who remain single by now are males, particularly those in rural areas. It can be estimated that poor young men in such areas will find it even harder to have girl friends or get married in the near future.
