Pakistani officials say the army has arrested a man they believe to be the chief spokesman for the Pakistani Taliban Maulvi Omar.

They said a formal announcement about the arrest would be made shortly.

Officials told news agencies that Maulvi Omar was picked up while travelling in a tribal¹ area by car close to the Afghan border.

Maulvi Omar is the spokesman for the militant² alliance Tehrik Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
