Chinanews, Beijing, Jan.24 - The former head of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) Qiu Xiaohua, who was sacked in October for alleged2 involvement in a social security fund fraud, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC), and stripped of all his administrative3 posts, an official source said yesterday.

 

It said that Qiu "took a large sum of bribes4 from enterprises, lived a decadent5 life and committed bigamy".

 

According to an announcement of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection6 (CCDI), Qiu's behavior severely7 violated Party rules and relevant laws, and caused a vile8 social and political influence. He must be severely punished.

 

Qiu has been handed over to the judicial9 authority to face criminal charges.

 

Born in 1958, Qiu Xiaohua is a native of East China's Fujian Province. He graduated from the department of Economics of Xiamen University in Fujian in 1982.

 

He was appointed director of the National Bureau of Statistics last March to replace Li Deshui.
