文中的shoddy substitute即为“赝品、冒牌货”的意思。说到冒牌货，英文中有很多类似的表达，比如knock-off（仿冒品）、fake（假货）、adulterated goods（冒充货）等。此外，对于大家耳熟能详的山寨一词，尚无统一译法，有的人翻译成copycat，或rip-off world brand，而新版《牛津英汉－汉英词典》中收录的山寨一词，则取其音译shan zhai。

据悉，此次受损瓷器出自宋代Ge kiln³（哥窑），属first-grade cultural relics⁴（一级文物）。哥窑是宋代五大名窑之一，另外四个为官、汝、定、钧。另外，我国历史上，瓷窑因其所有制的不同分为official kiln（官窑）和civilian kiln（民窑）两种。
