《阿甘正传》：生活像一盒巧克力

        这是母亲去世前，阿甘（Forrest Gump）在母亲面前听到的最后一次微言大义。“妈妈，为什么你会死？”“妈妈，我的命运会怎样？”乍看起来幼稚可笑的问题，还原了人最本真的状态，问出了许多我们心底曾经或仍然在问的疑惑。而妈妈的回答则告诉我们一个寻常人对生活的领悟：生活本来就不麻烦，生活其实是一件很简单的事，永远不要庸人自扰地去追问更多。——听听甘妈妈是怎么诠释的：

        Gump: What's the matter, Mama?
        Mum: I'm dying, Forrest. Come on in, sit down over here.
        Gump: Why are you dying, Mama?
        Mum: It's my time. It's just my time. Oh, now...don't you be afraid, sweet heart. Death is just a part of life. Something we're all destined¹ to do. I didn't know it, but I was destined to be your mama. I did the best I could.
        Gump: You did good.
        Mum: Well...I happen to believe you make your own destiny. You have to do the best with what God gave you. 
        Gump: What's my destiny, Mama?
        Mum: You're going to have to figure that out for yourself. Life is a box of chocolates, Forrest. You never know what you're going to get.

重点讲解：

        be dying，垂死的、就要死去的，和下面那句“It's my time.”都是妈妈告诉阿甘，自己的时间不多了，快要离开这个世界了。她让甘不要害怕（be not afraid），因为死亡只是从属于生活的一部分，是命中注定的。

        be destined to do，注定做某事，动词destine多用它的被动形式，destiny是这个动词的名词形式，意思是，命运。妈妈说，我们都会死亡，就像我命中注定要做你的妈妈，我也不知道为什么，但我尽自己最大的努力去做（do the best）了。所以你也要以上帝赋予你的一切天赋、能力去做到最好，去履行好自己命定的人生。

        阿甘想问妈妈自己的命运会怎样，妈妈说出了那个广为人知的比喻：生活就像一盒巧克力，你永远不知道你将得到什么。figure out，原意是合计为、计算出，引申意就是，解决、领悟到。
