一些关于“超市”的日常表达

1  supermarket

 

在国外大部分超市都统称为supermarket，但是在美国却分得比较清晰，美国综超就称为supermarket。

 

在英汉辞典中supermarket的定义是a large shop which sells all kinds of food and some household goods。

 

就是说它是一个销售家庭中使用的食品、饮料和商品的大商店。supermarket更确切讲是仓储、量贩式超市，美国人也形象统称为Big Box。也如泰国的Big-C，国内的Walmart（沃尔玛），Costco（好士多），Sam's Club（山姆）。

 

特点是商场规模大，提供的商品种类非常的丰富，从食物到生活的日用品，家具电器和汽车配件等都可以买到。一般会在城市边缘，交通方便，价格优惠。

 

Most of us do our food shopping in the supermarket.

我们大多数人在这家大型超市采购食品。

 

2  grocery store

 

grocery store，则是指小型的杂货店。在美国英语中，“杂货店”常被用来指“超市”。特点是小而精，侧重食物和生活用品。

 

美国某些独特地区的连锁杂货店，每个store都有各自特点、优势。比如在美国比较出名的华盛顿哥伦比亚特区Whole Foods（全食超市）、Fresh Market（福莱夕超市）、Central Market（中央超市）以有机食品出名，加州的Trade Joe's, Kroger以自制品牌见长。

 

据外媒报道，亚马逊在西雅图开设了首个日杂无人零售店Go Grocery，Go Grocery使用摄像头和传感器来跟踪进店消费者，记录他们从货架上拿走了什么商品。购物者离开时要付费。

 

We have more options at the grocery store and at restaurants.

我们在杂货店和餐馆有更多的选择。

 

3  convenience store

 

convenience store则是指便利店，比如国内的Seven-eleven 7-11，Family Mart全家便利店等常见的。

 

特点是为我们提供的应急所需，方便便捷就能买到东西，通常会营业24小时不间断。

 

I treat the one near the train station more like a giant convenience store.

火车站旁边那家超市对我来说更像是一个大型的便利店。

 

4  Variety Store

 

Variety Store则是杂货店。

 

英汉词典中的解释是：a shop that sells a wide range of small, inexpensive items.

 

特点一般价格比较低廉，比如国内的10元店，99 cents， 比grocery store还要稍微小一点。

 

I pulled him over to the window of Poulson's Variety Store. "You see those?"

我拉着他来到鲍尔森杂货铺的橱窗边，“看到那个了吗？”
