哪些地名前加定冠词the

1. （单个）湖泊、山脉、岛屿以及城市和大陆的名字前在通常情况下不用加 “the”。

 

I live near Lake Como.

I visited Mont Blanc last year.

I went to Tokyo last summer.

I really want to go to Cuba.

Asia is a huge continent.

 

2. 注意：河流名字，多个岛屿构成的群岛、多个山峰构成的山脉等名字前常会加 “the”。

 

The Yantze River is the third longest river in the world.

The Nile is the longest river in the world.

Mount¹ Everest is in the Himalayas.

The Maldives consists of many islands.

 

3. 国家名字前通常不加 “the”，但是复数名词的国名，或国名全称中带有 “states（邦，州的复数）”、“kingdom（王国）” 和 “republic（共和国）” 时，前面多加 “the”。

 

I love Spain.

I flew to the Netherlands.

I visited the United States last year.

I live in the United Kingdom.

The Republic of Ireland is in the EU.
