The Reasons for Applying for the Job

Interviewer：Why have you decided¹ to change jobs?

Erwin：I hope to change ❶ because my current job is not within my chosen field. Since ❷ my

major was international banking², I really hope to work at a bank.

Interviewer：Then, why do you want to work for our bank since it is a new establishment in

Shanghai?

Erwin：Because your bank is a new one, I think I'll be given more opportunities, and the

working conditions and surroundings are so excellent here.

Interviewer：It certainly is. But the work is also very hard. You'll need to put in ❸ a lot of long

hard hours to succeed in this field.

Erwin：I expect to work hard, ma'am.

Interviewer：Do you mind going on frequent business trips ❹ ?

Erwin：No. I enjoy travelling.

❶ “hope to do sth.”意为“希望做某事”，但注意没有“hope sb. to do sth.”的形

式，例如：Tom's hoping to study law at Harvard.（汤姆希望能在哈佛学习法

律。）另外，“hope”表示“希望”时还可以接从句，例如：I hope（that）

everything is okay.（我希望一切顺利。）

❷ “since”在这里是连词，引导原因状语从句，意为“因为，由于，既然”，例

如：Since nobody's replied yet, we'll assume they're not interested.（既然还没

有人答复，我们就可以认为他们不感兴趣了。）

❸ “put in（sth. ）”是“投入，花费（时间、精力等）”的意思，例如：If I put

in some extra hours today, I can have some time off tomorrow. （如果我今天多

花几个小时的时间，明天我就可以有休息时间了。）

❹ “go on a business trip”意为“出差，商务旅行”。“go on a trip”表示“旅行，旅

游”，类似的结构还有：go on a tour（旅游）等。

应聘原因

面试官：你为什么决定要换工作呢？

欧文：我想换工作是因为我现在的工作不在我选择的领域范围内。因为我的专业是国

际银行业，所以我很想在一家银行工作。

面试官：那么，你为什么想来我们这样一家在上海新成立的银行工作呢？

欧文：正是因为这是一家新成立的银行，我想我在这里能有更多的机会，并且这里的

工作条件和工作环境都非常好。

面试官：确实是这样。但同时这里的工作也很辛苦。需要长时间辛苦地工作才能在这

个领域取得成功。

欧文：我会很努力地干的，夫人。

面试官：你介意经常出差吗？

欧文：不介意。我喜欢到处走走。
