The rapid expansion of biofuel production may be welcome news for environmentalists but for the world's beer drinkers it could be a different story.

对生物燃料给料的强劲需求，鼓励了农民种植玉米、大豆和油菜籽等作物，而非大麦等粮食作物，从而推高了粮食作物的价格。

Strong demand for biofuel feedstocks such as corn, soyabeans and rapeseed is encouraging farmers to plant these crops instead of grains like barley1, driving up prices.

荷兰啤酒酿造商喜力(Heineken)的首席执行官让-弗朗索瓦o范博克斯米尔(Jean-Francois van Box-meer)上周警告称，生物燃料领域的快速扩张已开始造成欧美农业市场的"结构性转变"。

Jean-Francois van Box-meer, chief executive of Heineken, the Dutch brewer2, warned last week that the expansion of the biofuel sector3 was beginning to cause a "structural4 shift" in European and US agricultural markets.

他表示，其中一个后果可能是啤酒价格长期呈现上行趋势。大麦和啤酒花约占啤酒酿造成本的7%至8%。

One consequence, he said, could be a long term shift upwards5 in the price of beer. Barley and hops6 account for about 7-8 per cent of brewing7 costs.
