Modern Technology Makes Life More Convenient
Technology has been the cradle of modem1 civilization. Ever since the emergence2 of human beings, an unprecedently intelligent and diligent3 species of creature, we have never given up the intention to explore the world and conquer the nature, in spite of frustrations4 and obstacles along the way. Led by several preeminent5 scientists, we are anxious to catch up with the pace to step into, or if possible, leap into the modern world. Nevertheless, whether technology makes life more convenient or not is a disputable question we are bogged6 in a dilemma7.
On the one hand, technology contributes to the updating of our standards of living and the alteration8 of our living patterns. The third industrial revolution is the most prodigious9 one. It not only gave birth to the thriving IT industry, but also exempted10 a certain number of us from the burden of commuting11.Owning to the technology of manufacturing chips and optical cables at a relatively12 low cost, working at home with pajamas13 and studying at one's own will are now both feasible. You are your own boss now! This causes my recollection of Martin Luther King's word:” Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty14, we are free at last". Moreover, for someone with a disability, technology doesn't just make life more convenient; it is often the difference between independence and relying on others for the simplest of tasks.
Technology is a necessary force in modern life. Tools, such as the VCR, computers, cellular15 telephones, voice-mail and pagers e-mail are the milestones16 of the technology as well as human being's progress. The Internet also made life easier as "the information superhighway”. Without it, we might still stay in a poor society. We might have to work by hands instead of by machines and read many books to gain new knowledge instead of making use of computer nets. It's believed that technology improves our life and really makes life more easy and convenient. For all technology ushers17 in the prosperity of human world
On the other hand, life turned out to be more complex and stressful than before. With internet, Privacy will become a luxury, not right .We are headed towards control by those who control the technology. We are headed towards losing autonomy and privacy. Computer viruses made by hackers18 with personal purposes irritated us from time to time. With computer and mobile phones, wherever you go, you are in a state of working and it’s easy for you boss contact you and assign a new job even you are on vacation. Without car, we may be take few days’ walk to another city and enjoy the view on the way, but we’ll never tortured by just waiting for several hours when met traffic jam. Without e-mail, we may not get in touch with each other in a minute, but we do cherish memory of looking forward to a letter from distance.
Every coin has two sides, technology is a double-bladed sword.
Anyway, it’s an invulnerable fact that technology simplifies life In many ways.
