last-ditch agreement 最后关头达成协议

European leaders sealed a last-ditch agreement after days of negotiation¹. Their plan is to reduce Greece's debt by 50 percent and expand the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF), the eurozone's bailout fund, to 1 trillion euros from 440 billion euros.

 

经过数天磋商，欧洲各国领导人终于在最后关头达成协议。按照计划，希腊债务将减记50%，同时将欧元区救助基金EFSF（欧洲金融稳定基金）的救助基金规模从4400亿欧元放大到1万亿欧元。

 

文中的last-ditch agreement就是指“最后关头”达成的协议，last-ditch就是指“最后防线的，已无后退余地的”，比如last-ditch effort（拼死努力），die in the last ditch（奋战到死），last-ditch idea（最后的主意），last-ditch attempt（最后的尝试）。

 

全球多国对解决eurozone debt crisis（欧元区债务危机）的一揽子协议表示欢迎。该计划有利于lift market confidence（提振市场信心）。欧盟同时寻求cash-rich emerging economies（富裕的新兴经济体）增大投资，但有专家提醒称，目前投资European sovereign bonds（欧洲主权基金）存在风险。
