　　来一份普通冰激凌

　　In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10-year-old boy entered a hotelcoffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him. “How much is an icecream sundae?” “Fifty cents,” replied the waitress. The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocketand studied a number of coins in it. “How much is a dish of plain ice cream?” he inquired. Somepeople were now waiting for a table and the waitress was a bit impatient. “Thirty-five cents,” shesaid brusquely . The little boy again counted the coins. “I'll have the plain ice cream,” he said.

　　The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finishedthe ice cream, paid the cashier and departed. When the waitress came back, she began wipingdown the table and then swallowed hard at what she saw. There, placed neatly beside the emptydish, were two nickels and five pennies — her tip.

　　过去有一阵儿，冰激凌圣代比现在便宜得多。有个十岁大的小男孩走进一家宾馆咖啡店，在桌旁坐下。女服务员端了一杯水给他。“冰激凌圣代卖多少钱？”“五十美分。”服务员告诉他。小男孩从口袋里抓出一把硬币数了起来。“一盘普通的冰激凌卖多少钱？”他问。此时，有人正在等座位，服务员也有点不耐烦了。“三十五美分。”服务员很粗暴。小男孩又数了一遍硬币说：“那我要一份普通冰激凌。”服务员端来冰激凌，把账单放在桌上就走开了。小男孩吃完冰激凌，在收银员那儿付了钱离开了。服务员回来擦桌子的时候，没法相信自己的眼睛。只见桌上空盘子旁边整齐地摆着两个五分硬币和五个一分硬币——是给她的小费。
